Hey there!
I already broke my one and only resolution of 2012.
Well well, who would've thought that.. I shouldn't make any New Year's resolutions, I wouldn't keep it anyway.
This is a post about a part of my first vacation week. After Christmas, I went to Boston with Anna. Both of our hostparents announced our vacations pretty much last-minute but we made the best out of it and had a great time.
So, after a six or seven hour bus ride we finally arrived in Boston, MA. We were really tired and still had to find the hostel but the receptionist of the hostel was unbelievable helpful and nice. He gave us all the directions from the bus terminal to the hostel and waited for us until 12AM even though the check-in hours were only until 11PM. So nice!
On the next day, we woke up pretty early to see as much as possible from Boston! But we were short on money, so we tried to save every penny. And again, the employees were very helpful. He gave us a lot of tips where we could go without paying money and indeed, we didn't spend anything on sightseeing! We went to the Prudential Tower and sneaked into the restaurant to quickly take some pictures of the skyline, we saw the Harvard University (unfortunately, it was closed on that day, so we couldn't go inside.. :< ), we followed the Freedom Trail and saw the New England Holocaust Memorial.
We didn't know that it was a Holocaust Memorial until I read this quote (last picture).
NOTHING BELONGS to us anymore.
They have taken away our clothes,
our shoes, even our hair.
If we speak, they will not listen to us.
And if they listen, they will not understand.
They have even taken away our names.
MY NUMBER IS 174517. I will carry the tattoo on my left arm until I die.
I don't know why but I was really moved by this Memorial. It is simple but yet so meaningful.
I couldn't take any good pictures of the whole Memorial because we went there in the evening and it was already dark. So I will try to describe how it looks like: It is an elaborate sidewalk with six tall, square, glass columns along the path that visitors can walk through. Each glass column represents one of the six major concentration camps (Auschwitz, Majdanek, Chelmno, Treblinka, Belzec & Sobibor). It can also stand for the six million Jews who were killed in the Holocaust or the six years of the mass exermination from 1939-1945. The floors are iron grates and steam is coming up from underneath to mist the glass, illustrating smoke stacks of the gas chambers.
After walking around at the Quincy Market where they had a loooot of delicious food, we went to the other market right next to it where they have
two Urban Outfitters <3 We bought some clothes there, because a lot of things were on sale and it was an additional 50% off on all the clothes which were already on sale! AWESOME! It's obvious that we couldn't resist..
It's a shame that my camera died! I couldn't take any pictures when we arrived at the Quincy Market..
At the end of a day full of walking and exploring, we went to Chinatown to eat dinner. And we found a cute little restaurant where I had an awesome bubble tea! :D
I'm very happy that I did this trip with Anna because we somehow have a lot in common besides the fact that she was the former aupair of my current hostfamily! I can't stop saying how thankful I am for meeting so many amazing people.
Well, that was my short but quite amazing trip to Boston! I definitely have to come back because I'm sure there's a lot more to see in Boston!
It might be a little bit too late to wish you a happy new year but I'll still do it!
Happy New Year, may all your wishes come true! Lots of love, success, happiness and health <3
